Johannesburg, 05 July 2017 — Global Credit Ratings has today downgraded the national scale claims paying ability rating assigned to Saham Assurances Angola Seguros, S.A. to A(AO) from A+(AO), with the outlook accorded as Negative. The rating is valid until June 2018.
SUMMARY RATING RATIONALE
Global Credit Ratings (“GCR”) has accorded the above credit rating to Saham Assurances Angola Seguros, S.A. (“Saham Angola”) based on the following key criteria:
The rating action is based on pressured capitalisation and earnings. Other supporting factors include the insurer’s business profile, liquidity metrics and fairly sophisticated risk management framework supporting reserving levels.
Earnings capacity remaining under pressure resulting in capital erosion (in the absence of additional solvency support from the group) is likely to result in further negative rating action. Conversely, positive rating action may follow a strengthening of risk adjusted capitalisation to very strong levels and/or earnings capacity being sustainably restored within a strong range.
