Operating Environment Overview | Seychellois Banking Institutions (Aug 2022)

Seychelles lies northeast of Madagascar, an archipelago of 115 islands with a small population of about 99,000 citizens, three-quarters of whom live on the main island of Mahé. Seychelles has the highest gross domestic product (“GDP”) per capita in Africa amounting to USD14,931 at end-2021. However, the country is highly dependent on tourism, and climate change poses long-term sustainability risks. Tourism and its related sectors account for two-thirds of Seychelles’ GDP.
